LFS Lightning Rally last 9/11

Last September 11, 2009, members of the militant group League of the Filipino Students conducted a lightning rally in front of the US Embassy in Manila in protest of the continued US intervention in the Philippines in part of the commemoration of the 32nd founding anniversary of LFS. Terry Ridon, secretary general of LFS said, “The LFS had always been correct when it demanded the expulsion of US troops then, and this was clear proof that the Philippine government merely kowtows to US interests. The same is true until now, with the Visiting Forces Agreement.”

The members of student militant keep on whistle blowing their sentiments that the Visiting Forces Agreement is an integral proof of the continuous puppetry of the Philippines to the US. “The presence of US troops in the Philippines undermines the supposed sovereignty and independence of the country, even more so if that presence is permanent”, Ridon stated.

Ridon also reiterated that the continued implementation of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) and other unequal treaties with the US has taken away victories of the decade’s worth of Filipino struggle against US intervention such as dismantling of US bases in 1991.

The lightning demonstration happened the same day the divisive September 11 bombing where a series of coordinated suicide attacks upon the United States took place. The US once again is experiencing a buzz, it may be a different plot and setting but an evidently parallel significance.
